About the role:

As a Senior Chemist you will assist in solving problems involving analytical chemistry, process chemistry and chemical waste management. Provide technical support to the laboratory by planning and implementing procedures in the laboratory and other areas of the plant related to the development, performance and standards of operation.

You will report to the Lab Manager and be located at Ogden, UT. You will support this position 100% onsite.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general laboratory chemical testing together with the testing laboratory program

  • Support senior chemists and supervisors by performing related testing

  • Provide limited direction to laboratory technicians on processes

  • Ensure instruments are maintained and operational; update and validate accuracy of operational procedures

  • Maintain critical spares inventory for the instruments

  • Ensure calibration meet operational standards

  • Assist laboratory technicians in proper application of processes

  • Prepare project cost proposals in assigned areas

  • Perform evaluations on new equipment

  • Conduct evaluation of new methodologies

  • Research and make recommendations for potential cost savings

  • Conduct work in laboratory in cooperation with senior chemists

  • Verify data analysis is accurate

  • Verify that calculation formulas are appropriate and accurate

  • Support the preparation and development of chemical testing manuals, reports and procedures

  • Develop procedures

  • Develop and issue analytical reports

  • Ensure the accuracy of limited assigned analyses and evaluations of results using techniques and procedures

  • Evaluate effectiveness of implemented cost improvements

Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in STEM discipline.

  • 5 years laboratory experience or equivalent education

  • General knowledge of analytical chemistry and statistical principles

  • Chemistry, American Chemical Society certification preferred

  • Knowledge of extractive and physical metallurgy preferred

  • American Chemical Society certification preferred
