We are seeking a junior-level Scientist 1 with a strong background in Physical Science, Applied Math, Signal and Image Processing, and/or Scientific Computing. The successful candidate may be utilized in one or more of the following areas: ocean remote sensing, signal/image processing, state estimation, detection and tracking, computer vision, machine learning, physics-based modeling, data analysis, and sensor characterization. This role requires a passion for solving challenging technical problems in a collaborative environment. This full-time, exempt, non-supervisory position is based in our Northridge, CA office.

Experiences and Background We Look For (required skills):

  • Qualified candidates will have a BS or MS in the physical sciences, mathematics, electrical engineering (with an emphasis on signal and image processing), and/or other scientific computing fields
  • Experience programming in Python, C, C++, or similar languages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire for continuous learning
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with small teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance and customer approved program access
  • Willingness to work onsite in the office 100%

Nice to Have (desired skills):

  • Physics-based modeling and simulation experience
  • Remote sensing experience utilizing Electro-Optics or Synthetic Aperture RADAR
  • Classical signal/image processing experience (detection, estimation, and tracking)
  • Computer vision, image and data fusion, image classification or automated target recognition
  • Parallel programming experience (threads, MPI, CUDA, etc.)
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000 and is dependent on the candidate’s level of experience. However, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills .
