We are seeking a Sr. Laboratory Manager . The Sr. Laboratory Manager is responsible for the scientific and administrative management of all the laboratories in the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering. Specifically, this person will be responsible for the scientific and administrative management of all ChemBE labs. They will need to apply advanced knowledge of each labs research interests to help meet the overall objectives of each lab, They would ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements through continuous monitoring and improvements, Apply advanced knowledge of the laboratory's research interest to meet the overall objectives and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements through continuous monitoring and improvements.
This individual will ensure the efficient functioning of laboratories by managing procurement, maintaining compliance with safety regulations, coordinating space utilization, and organizing training programs. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to fostering a safe and productive research environment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
- Responsible for efficient utilization of assigned resources.
- Plan and develop new testing, oversee quality assurance and analysis of results.
- Develop and administer laboratory budget
- Prepare for inspections and monitor compliance of the assigned laboratory area(s) consistent with regulatory agencies requirements.
- Supervise, orient, train, and assess competencies of laboratory staff. Ensure appropriate documentation per regulatory requirements.
- Serve as resource and provide guidance as needed to all faculty, staff and learners working in the laboratory.
- Direct the specification, design, implementation, and modification of projects related to the assigned laboratory.
- Use technical skills in the laboratory specialty to provide organization and technical insight into problem solving.
- Apply analytical ability to resolve complex technical, human resource and administrative problems
Supplemental information
- Manage laboratory and office space assignments to optimize utilization.
- Coordinate with facilities management for renovations, repairs, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Maintain accurate records of space allocation and equipment usage.
- Act as the departments primary liaison with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to address safety concerns and coordinator inspections.
- Workflow of IRB and IACUC approval procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
- Eight years experience in laboratory specialty.
- Supervisory or lead experience in a laboratory.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a related field, with related graduate research.
