We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious Research Associate to help power our educational efforts through rigorous research, operational support, and team administration. As part of the Cato Institute's commitment to professional growth, Cato Research Associates participate in educational sessions, workshops, and mentoring programs designed to enhance skills in policy analysis, public speaking, writing, and more.

This is a hybrid position based out of the Cato Institutes office in Washington DC, with an opportunity for travel to represent Libertarianism.org at conferences and events as needed.

The starting salary for the Research Associate position is $52,000.

Key Responsibilities

Research Support

  • Assist in the development of scholarly content, including articles, essays, and educational materials.
  • Conduct literature reviews, fact-checking, and data analysis to support ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with scholars to prepare materials for publication and presentation.
  • Assist in the development of multimedia content, interactive timelines, maps, and articles.

Operations and Analysis

  • Manage and update content on Libertarianism.org, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Coordinate with IT and design teams to implement website enhancements and troubleshoot issues.
  • Update and enhance database records.
  • Collaborate with marketing stakeholders to support impact and goal measurement and analysis.

Administrative Coordination and Support

  • Schedule and organize meetings, events, and webinars related to Libertarianism.org initiatives.
  • Support the director and associate director with accounting, travel, and administrative needs.
  • Collaborate with Catos legal counsel to properly maintain contractual agreements.
  • Prepare monthly memos on teamwide activities for Catos leadership team.
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in political science, economics, history, philosophy, or a related field.
  • At least one year of prior internship or work experience.
  • Strong understanding of libertarian principles and commitment to promoting individual liberty.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related field
  • Experience with digital publishing and online content management.
  • Familiarity with the Cato Institute's work and mission.
  • Prior experience in a think tank, academic, or policy research setting.
