We are seeking a Associate Prodct Development Engineer to join our team at the Fairburn, GA location. In this key role, you will be assisting in design of new products and processes based on customer performance objectives, working alongside PDEs, technicians, and operations personnel. Responsibilities- Prioritizes their own safety and the safety of their peers by adhering to site PPE standards as well as being proactive to drive continuous improvement.
- Assist in the development and refinement of porous plastic components through all phases of the product lifecyclefrom concept to commercialization.
- Sets up and operates equipment. Collaborates with engineers to develop processes for new polymer products.
- Assists engineers in development of new equipment to optimize production.
- Creates complex prototype products according to customer specifications and gives engineers design feedback through prototyping to serial production.
- Designs experiments, prepares samples, and tests physical or chemical properties of prototypes and materials using analytical lab tools and software to determine performance against specs.
- Documents statistics in digital spreadsheets, charts, and reports to recommend data driven corrective actions that improve product quality.
- Writes complete work instructions and trains production team to successfully produce product. Must provide clear communication and supportive teamwork to align all stakeholders.
- Assist with stage-gate project documentation and support scale-up from lab to production.
- Optimizes process parameters for molding plastic polymers with data driven decisions.
- Participates in 5S to maintain efficient workflow and sanitary or regulatory requirements.
- Eagerly learns, supports teammates, and takes on additional duties as new projects develop.
- Upholds company policies and codes of conduct as a role model for other employees.
- This is a hands-on position with over 50% of time being spent in the lab or on production floor.
Core Competencies
- Basic understanding of manufacturing and quality systems in production environment. (Hands-on experience is a plus)
- Foundational knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and team-based problem-solving methodologies; candidates with coursework or internship experience in these areas are preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact across all levels of the organization.
- Analytical and critical thinking abilities with an eagerness to develop problem-solving skills and learn root cause analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with or interest in learning data analysis, quality tools, and statistical process control.
- Exposure to or willingness to learn solid modeling software, statistical analysis software, and 3D printing technologies.
- Intermediate computer skills required. (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Medium Work - Lifting of 50 pounds maximum
Education and Experience Requirements
- Associates degree, trade school, vocational program, or equivalent technical experience relevant to this role.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly analyze problems and develop solutions.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
