Job Summary:

Associates engaged in mixing or polymerization operations who perform the following essential job functions. A Chemical Operator I is an entry level position typically defined as having been in the Chemical Operations department for less than 2 years and having been trained in less than 2 manufacturing areas within the department.

Essential Functions:

  • Follows all safety regulations to include: grounding, bonding, nitrogen inerting, use of PPE, and appropriate use of exhaust vents.
  • Wears appropriate clothing to include: ESD shoes, long pants, and long sleeves
  • Performs a variety of production tasks which include, but are not limited to: setting up equipment, adjusting and operating equipment, observing for proper functioning of equipment, and inspecting/testing of products.
  • Adds ingredients which require specific measurements, addition, and mixing techniques as required by procedures and batch records.
  • Performs visual inspection of all materials used and produced
  • Operates a variety of support equipment such as mixers, balances, pumps, mixers, mills, granulators, timers, and controllers
  • Accurately performs work assignments and computer transactions that are required to adjust inventory.
  • Accurately performs calculations using various units of measure.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment following departmental 6S requirements, notifying lead operator and/or supervisor of unsafe practices, conditions, or acts.
  • Achieve quality and throughput goals.
  • Performs work according to SPAR's, WI's, and verbal instructions. Seeks lead operator and/or supervisor assistance in resolving problems not covered by procedures.
  • Effectively communicates with other associates, lead operators and supervisors while maintaining the self-confidence and self-esteem of others; relays information to the next shift; voluntarily assists other associates, and communicates effectively to prevent problems from occurring.
  • Completes required verifications and documentation accurately and neatly.
  • Participates in training and assists with training where applicable.
  • Participates in problem-solving and takes initiative to make changes through the UCM and change control process where applicable.
  • Collaborates and contributes to the development of new products, processes, and equipment
  • Responsible for following all applicable waste handling procedures

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and previous production experience is highly desirable (preferably in web handling, such as paper or fabric manufacturing, printing, coating, etc.)
  • Conforms to the Guiding Principles, Company Policies, Quality Systems, ISO, OSHA, etc.
  • Uses procedures and skills, which require considerable training, to carrying out assignments
  • Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, irritant chemicals; may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, uniforms, hairnets, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, shields, etc.
  • Physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities should be expected; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items (objects 50-100 pounds with lift assist); requires common physical characteristics and abilities, such as above-average agility and dexterity
  • The work involves the execution of procedures which make up a finished product of a broader scope; the component product affects the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further processing
