Job Summary of the Laboratory Technician, R&D

The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of Axogen's R&D laboratory. This position is responsible for executing routine experiments and testing, preparing and analyzing biological and tissue-based samples, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. The Laboratory Technician will ensure safe handling and disposal of hazardous and biohazardous materials, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the continuous improvement of lab workflows. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a regulated environment.

Requirements of the Laboratory Technician, R&D

  • Associate's degree in a scientific or technical field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience in a regulated industry (medical device, biologics, or pharmaceutical preferred).
  • Experience working with animal and/or human tissues is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols including handling hazardous and biohazardous substances.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed protocols and SOPs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician, R&D

The specific duties of the Laboratory Technician, R&D include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct daily operations of the laboratory, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and supply coordination.
  • Execute routine experiments and testing in support of R&D studies.
  • Prepare and process biological and tissue-based samples for analysis.
  • Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records, including notebooks and electronic data systems.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and biohazardous materials in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in the development, validation, and documentation of test methods and protocols.
  • Support product development activities including feasibility, verification, and stability testing.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Participate in lab safety audits and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and workflows.
