Position Summary:

The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for quality throughout production, from the log yard to shipping. This individual is also responsible for tracking and reporting inventory levels.

Duties/Responsibilities:

* Perform and record checks and measurements on the product during production.

* Produce and present quality control reports on logs/sawmill/planer size statistics, optimizers, operators, equipment, grade recovery, and shipping.

* Make recommendations to management to increase grade recovery and quality.

* Attend supervisor meetings to report data.

* In collaboration with department supervisors and the Operations Manager, ensure the accurate accounting and reporting of lumber stock levels.

* Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.

* On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to address manufacturing issues team members.

* Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.

* Ability to read and understand service and technical manuals.

* Knowledge of green and dry manufacturing specifications.

* Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365.

* Proficient in optimization technology and software preferred.

* Ability to self-direct and prioritize workflow.

* Ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Education and Experience:

* Minimum two (2) years of experience in quality control in lumber manufacturing operation preferred.

* Hold at least one (1) grading certificate from the WWPA or obtain within six months.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable weather and temperatures.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
