About the job you're considering:
The Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer provides comprehensive process control support to refinery operations and both minor and major projects. The APC Engineer ensures that refinery process unit business objectives are achieved through the implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of regulatory and advanced multivariable control strategies. As a member of the Process Engineering team, the APC Engineer is empowered to exercise independent judgment in fulfilling job responsibilities.
Your role:
- Deliver APC engineering expertise to enhance operational performance of refinery process units through application performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization.
- Lead the development, design, modeling, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing APC applications (like Honeywell Forge APC, Aspen DMC+/DMC3 APC or other similar software), including deployment of software releases and upgrades.
- Identify and present opportunities for income improvement via APC applications aimed at increasing operational stability and profitability.
- Develop safe work practices, maintenance procedures, testing protocols, specifications, and engineering standards relevant to APC applications as needed.
- Prepare documentation specific to APC applications and deliver training for operational or technical personnel as required.
- Conduct regular reviews of APC Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), communicate findings to operations and process engineering teams, and recommend remediation actions to maintain or improve APC performance.
- Provide APC subject matter expertise to both small and large capital projects, defining instrumentation and control strategy requirements related to APC.
- Offer modeling support for refinery gasoline blending and maintain models for additional initiatives as necessary.
- Support the adoption and dissemination of APC best practices through internal and external collaboration.
- Lead Management of Change (MOC) processes related to APC applications.
- Perform routine audits of APC systems to ensure compliance with safety and reliability safeguards, such as alarms.
- Remain current with advancements in APC technology by attending technical seminars, conferences, and training sessions.
- Collaborate closely with the Process Engineering team to optimize process units using APC solutions and to achieve process objectives.
- Work alongside the refinery Process Control team to assist in troubleshooting and tuning of process control strategies.
- Engage with the refinery Planning team to discuss opportunities for margin enhancements and large-scale optimization across multiple units.
- Mentor and support the professional growth of less experienced APC engineers.
Your skills & experience :
Minimum of four years of combined experience in process engineering/design, process control, and/or advanced process control within refining, petrochemical, manufacturing, or related industries.
Optional skills :
- Experience with one or more refinery processes (such as crude/vacuum distillation, reforming, hydrotreating, alkylation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, sulfur plants, etc.).
- Experience in process design and dynamic modeling.
