**Job Summary**

Battelle is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated **Computational Bio-Inorganic Interface Scientist** within the National Security Business Unit. This full-time position is located in **Columbus, Ohio** . Some domestic and international travel is anticipated.

As a Bio-Inorganic Interface Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in conducting cutting-edge research by leveraging your expertise in computational biology, nanoscience, and engineering to bridge the fields of life science and molecular electronics to work at the forefront of bioelectronics and microdevice innovation. The successful candidate will focus on modeling, simulating, and predicting interactions at the interface between biological molecules (such as proteins, peptides, or nucleic acids) and inorganic materials (such as metals, oxides, or semiconductors). This role will primarily support the design and optimization of bio-integrated devices and materials that enhance or enable new functionalities in microelectronic devices. Additionally, you will actively identify and capitalize on opportunities to lead projects that enhance capabilities and foster the development of novel technical approaches. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team committed to advancing scientific knowledge and generating significant contributions to the field of bioelectronics.

**Responsibilities**

+ Develop and apply molecular modeling and simulation techniques (e.g., molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics) to study protein adsorption, orientation, and conformational changes at solid state interfaces (e.g., metals, oxides, semiconductors).

+ Predict and analyze the energetics, binding affinities, and structural properties of proteinsurface interactions.

+ Collaborate with experimentalists to validate computational predictions and guide the design of proteinmaterial interfaces for specific applications.

+ Contribute to the development of new computational protocols and workflows for interface modeling.

+ Collaborate with electrical engineers and materials scientists to integrate protein-based components into functional microelectronic devices.

+ Stay current with advances in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and biointerface science.

+ Analyze and interpret experimental data, and contribute to the preparation of intellectual property, technical reports, scientific manuscripts, and presentations.

+ Train and mentor junior technical staff.

Some domestic and potential international travel is anticipated.

**Key Qualifications**

+ Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Biophysics, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or a related field with 0-4+ years of experience.

+ Demonstrated experience with molecular modeling and simulation of biomolecular systems, particularly at interfaces with solid materials.

+ Proficiency with relevant software packages (e.g., GROMACS, AMBER, CHARMM, LAMMPS, VASP, Gaussian).

+ Strong understanding of protein structure, dynamics, and surface chemistry. Experience with high-performance computing environments.

+ Ability to rapidly iterate with wet lab scientists as designs are evaluated

+ Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and attention to detail.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

+ Ability to travel.

+ Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory and in the field to perform assigned duties.

+ U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Experience with design, expression, and purification of proteins with properties suitable for interfacing with microelectronic materials and devices.

+ Experience in engineering proteins for enhanced stability, conductivity, or specific binding to inorganic surfaces

+ Knowledge of surface chemistry and methods for protein immobilization on inorganic materials.

+ Experience with analytical techniques for characterizing protein-material interactions.

+ Knowledge of microfabrication or microelectronic device assembly.

+ Background in biosensors, bioelectronics, or related applications.

+ Publication record consistent with technical requirements for the position.

+ Experience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO17025, GLP).

+ Experience with high-throughput automation equipment and data sets derived from these systems.
