The Russ College of Engineering and Technologys Mechanical Engineering Department at Ohio University seeks applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate. We are seeking highly qualified applications to explore visual and LiDAR based navigation methods in the IDEAS lab ( The expected responsibilities for this position are to assist with research tasks investigating navigation and integrity assessment of several aircraft-related sensor modalities. The candidate will be mentored by Dr. Jay Wilhelm (Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering).
The main activities for the position include engineering efforts to evaluate new methods of navigation and position integrity of camera and LiDAR systems. Data from ground and aerial systems will be collected using GNSS , cameras, and LiDAR to develop a repository for integrity analysis investigations. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be expected to:
1. Develop Scholarly publications based on research performed. Edit, submit, and revise publications for conferences and journals. This may include attending and presenting research at conferences and other venues.
2. Perform research activities related to externally funded projects. This may include developing and evaluating algorithms, collecting data during experimental testing, and performing other types of research.
3. Report activities and duties performed during the research process to sponsors. Write quarterly, monthly, yearly, and final reports for funded projects.
Experience with the following systems will be preferred:
MATLAB
Python
ROS
Computer vision and/or YOLO
Pytorch and/or Tensor Flow
LiDAR
GIS
GNSS receivers
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field by the start date of appointment.
