The Senior Process Chemist develops and maintains factory recipes and mixing parameters for various rubber compounds. This role will provide expertise and leadership in rubber chemistry and be responsible for ensuring the rubber compound consistent quality by monitoring the mixing parameters, analyzing the physical properties, and assisting in the resolution of the material quality related issues. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge in material EPDM polymer science, rubber formulation chemistry, rubber compounding and mixing process, or a related field, along with excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills. #HBEIA Key Responsibilities Lead the factory EPDM rubber compound chemistry by relating applications and mixing process recommendations. Develop and maintain rubber recipes and mixing process parameters to ensure consistently meeting quality standards. Evaluation and qualification of new alternative chemical ingredients for business continuation as well as to continuously drive down compound costs. Process and ingredient characterization. Perform technical study, rubber mixing cycle optimization, document and monitor the compound performance and consistency. Conduct SPC analysis to assess results for applicability, validity, and conformance to compound specifications. Establish and control the rubber specs ensuring compliance with industry standards. Provide technical support to manufacturing teams to resolve quality and production issues and throughput enhancement. Conduct custom rubber mixers qualification as needed. Interact with suppliers on supply chain and / or raw material quality related issues, implement corrective action accordingly. Ensure on-going external awareness of supply chain disruption. Collaborate with the R D, plant Quality & Engineering departments and other stakeholders to improve compound formulations stability, performance, and mixing cycle consistency. Work independently and in cross-functional teams. Manage / support lean six sigma manufacturing continuous improvement and cost down initiatives. Reinforce the company safety culture and holds personal accountable for good safety practice. Perform additional duties as assigned. This position reports to the Process Engineering Manager. Required Skills Strong knowledge of material polymer science, rubber formulations or chemical process engineering. Technical competence in rubber compounding, mixing equipment and process, project management. Excellent in structured data driven problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in rubber mixing control software, MS Excel & Word. Minitab experience is a plus. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or advanced degree in Polymer Science, Material Science, or Chemistry. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the EPDM rubber compounding and mixing. Rubber extrusion and calendering (preferred), or other related experience. Experience in rubber lab testing equipment, conditions, and quality control. Proven track record of rubber compounding and mixing process control. Working Conditions The Senior Process Chemist will be based in an EPDM manufacturing facility, requiring occasional site visits to evaluate project progress, inspect equipment, and collaborate with the operational teams. Some travel may be required for vendor or contractor management, training, or other project-related activities. Physical Requirements May require lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and occasional travel for vendor visits or training. Direct Reports None.
