Principal Scientist/Histology Supervisor What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will independently perform basic and advanced histology functions, oversee the histology facility and associated personnel and act as the primary point of contact in matters pertaining to operation of the laboratory, reporting to the Director of the Pathology Lab.

  • Lead and manage workflows for histology preparation of specimens, including all documentation in required laboratory information systems and databases, as well as team communications.

  • Perform basic and advanced histology procedures (fixation and processing of tissues, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special stains, coverslipping, slide scanning, slide QC).

  • Coordinate, plan and schedule laboratory projects.

  • Provide direct daily supervision, prioritize workloads, and review work of technical staff to ensure accuracy and to ensure adherence to pertinent departmental policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Ensure technical staff are adequately trained to perform laboratory tasks and training is appropriately documented.

  • Ensure equipment is functional and maintained in good working order, and that lab safety protocols are adhered to.

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years histology/laboratory experience

OR

  • Master's degree and 3 years histology/laboratory experience

  • Certification/Licensure: HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) required.

  • Supervisory/management experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in histopathology / pathobiology in an industry setting.

  • Significant hands-on experience in a variety of histology-based methodologies and equipment.

  • Expertise in documentation, including laboratory information management systems usage.

  • Experience in successful representation of histology projects at cross-functional team meetings.

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment designed to promote frequent interaction and brainstorming.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
