Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader with a reputation for excellence in providing environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services to clients in diverse market sectors, seeks an experienced Geologist or Environmental Scientist to support environmental remediation project activities in Southern California.

  • Under general supervision, provides project management support including client involvement, work plan and proposal preparation, project scheduling and deadline tracking, budget evaluation and analysis, and technical editing and report finalization.
  • Must be a detail-oriented team player able to multi-task, and possess strong communication, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, planning, technical writing, delegation, mentoring, and time management skills.
  • Executes, supervises, and documents field aspects of environmental site assessment and remediation activities using standard operating procedures (SOPs). Conducts compliance assessment (e.g., facility response plan compliance), remedial testing, operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M), short-term remedial events (e.g., chemical injection, groundwater and vapor extraction), and other project-support field activities.
  • Self-performs or directs junior staff in the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, remediation activities, waste management and disposal, and other field requirements using standard operating procedures (SOPs). Self-performs and may direct junior staff in the performance of engineering design, permitting, OM&M, remedy process optimization, and environmental compliance.
  • Acts as the primary author for site work plans and proposals for routine scopes of work on low/medium priority projects, and co-author for complex scopes of work including comprehensive site characterizations and remedial actions. Co-authors comprehensive site characterizations and remedial action plans. These reports contain multiple level and interrelated interpretations and conclusions as well as provide recommendations based upon conclusions with focus on conceptual site model development.
  • May manage various level priority projects by providing technical, regulatory, and financial project support. Technical responsibilities may include monitoring contaminant concentrations, fate and transport analysis, QA/QC of data collected and documents generated, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provides technical, regulatory, and financial project support for O&M sites. Technical responsibilities may include monitoring contaminant concentrations, site remediation activities, quality of data collected and documents generated, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of pertinent regulations and their application to the compliance and progression of the projects.
  • Performs hydrogeological assessments regarding groundwater flows to identify contamination impact and related concerns.
  • Researches information relating to identifying geological formations and soil delineation studies and prepares reports and geological maps based on the findings.
  • Participates in the identification of viable remedial solutions consistent with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Procures and manages subcontractors and vendors for completion of project tasks (e.g., trenching and excavation, system construction, and electrical work), including supplier bid package development.

Skills & Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, environmental science, engineering or related scientific discipline.
  • 4+ years of related experience.
  • GIT or EIT a plus
  • Must be detail-oriented, and a team player with good communication, analytical, organization, and time management skills.
