At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for an experienced Battery Modeling Research Scientist to join our team. We are specifically seeking a candidate to lead AI/ML battery modeling efforts supporting development of advanced lithium-ion batteries for future XR devices

Battery Modeling Research Scientist Responsibilities

Lead AI/ML battery modeling efforts supporting development of advanced lithium-ion batteries for next-generation Extended Reality devices

Develop electrochemical models of Li-ion batteries and cell components. Use simulation to inform research roadmap and guide project execution

Transfer promising technologies from Research to Product

Support New Technology Introduction projects

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

PhD degree or equivalent experience in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical, Material, or Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline or equivalent experience

3+ years of industry experience in project leadership for battery development

3+ years of industry experience in battery development for EV or consumer electronics devices

3+ years experience designing and executing experiments for model parameterization and validation

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with battery cell materials, chemistry, and manufacturing processes for consumer electronics

Experience with electrochemical cell characterization, cyclic voltammetry (cyclic voltammetry), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), and familiarity with battery testing systems

Demonstrated proficiency in leadership and project management

3+ years industry experience in developing physics-based battery models for consumer electronics or electric vehicles

$147,000/year to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
