Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified individual to join our NSF funded research program as a research associate in our laboratory. We will consider candidates with a background or expertise in either 1.) chemical synthesis and solid phase synthesis for the development of small molecule inhibitors of bacterial glycosyl hydrolases, or 2.) Biochemistry/Microbiology for the biological/biochemical characterization and validation of small molecule inhibitors as potential probes to study bacterial cell wall metabolism. Responsibilities will include preparing small molecule libraries, screening libraries in biological assays, and biochemical characterization with their molecular target, assisting in supervision of undergraduate researchers, engage with collaborators, and general lab management.
This is a temporary appointment that will begin September 2025 with the possibility of an additional one-year renewal.

Principal Accountabilities
The principal responsibilities for the Research Technician include, but are not limited to the following:
Synthesis and characterization of small molecule inhibitors
Screening of small molecule libraries in biological assays
Protein expression and purification
Enzymology
Assist with microorganism culture (aerobic and anaerobic), antimicrobial screening assays, cloning, protein expression, and in vitro enzyme assays
Perform data analysis and maintain accurate records of results and methodologies
Assist in the purchase of laboratory supplies and oversee lab maintenance
Responsible for assisting in the supervision of undergraduate research assistants in the lab.
Perform additional related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
This position is best filled by an individual with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Chemical Sciences. The Research Technician should demonstrate attentiveness to detail and possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to gather, interpret, analyze and report data; effectively manage time, prioritize and follow through; schedule and complete multiple projects with varied schedules; and work both independently and as a part of a team is required.
