JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

1. Technical Expertise
- Performs cytogenetic and FISH analysis of all types of specimens, especially complex or difficult cases with accurate karyograms, advanced ISCN nomenclature and correct interpretations. In addition, participates in patient case review including pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical review.
- Mentors other scientists.
- Leads technical troubleshooting of difficult specimens, case issues, specimen tracking.
- Leads process and quality improvement as applicable.
- Maintains computer competency and can trouble shoot issues.
- Review and maintain policies and procedures.

2. Productivity, Resourcefulness, and Supervision
- Maintains optimum productivity in routine and FISH analysis while also completing other tasks and can handle shifting priorities.
- Trouble shoot and manage workflows, schedules and duties in absence of supervisor.
- Approachable and capable of being a resource for other employees.
- Creates a positive team environment through ready assistance to others, interactions with team members and leads by example.
- Assists supervisor in supervision of other scientists and technicians.

3. Quality Enhancement and Leadership
- Knowledgeable in all regulatory requirements, oversees compliance of others, participate and prepare for inspections.
- Leads validation of new methodologies, tests and instrumentation, oversight of re-validations or parallel validations of established tests or instruments.
- Drafts procedures, performs competency testing, and participates in the evaluation of performance of employees.
- Oversees maintenance of laboratory equipment and quality control processes.

Other duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree in Cytogenetic Technology -OR- Bachelor's degree in a related science field. Eight years of clinical laboratory experience. With Master's degree, six years of required experience. With Doctorate degree, four years of required experience.
