DESCRIPTIONIncumbent will contribute to the academic program of the Rosenfeld Laboratory by performing research that is recognized through publications in well regarded journals. The major focus of investigation and scientific enquiry centers on global genomic approaches to molecular mechanisms underlying transcriptional programs in development, homeostasis and disease, emphasizing the neuroendocrine system and the CNS. Incumbent will lead and design research approaches for a major portion of research project(s), including background research, experimental design and execution, problem-solving, and writing up for publication. Incumbent will design experimental work that requires a practical and theoretical understanding of epigenetic mechanisms in health and disease (aging, cancer) with a focus on transcriptional regulation by DNA methylation across development and tumorigenesis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAdvanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience in molecular biology or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education with the ability to make advanced contributions to research projects at a conceptual level.
Demonstrated experience in Bioinformatics.
Demonstrated experience in library preparation, qPCR, Immunoblot, histology and etc.
Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge of molecular biology technics.
Proven experience instructing others in lab procedures and techniques. Expert knowledge sufficient to coordinate studies with the lab and other departments. Skill to plan and organize work assignments in an efficient and productive manner.
Demonstrated ability to be well organized in execution of complex experiments paying close attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience in public relations and forming working alliances and building relationships with other medical and research professionals.
Extensive knowledge of the contract and grant proposal submission process to federal, state or private funding organizations, including the online submission process. Demonstrated experience in making original contributions to manuscript preparation and grant writing.
Familiarity utilizing computer software to analyze data, store results and compute raw data. Knowledge to work with and learn new software for analysis. Knowledge of basic computer applications including Word Processing, MS Word, Excel Spreadsheets, and Power Point.
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research. Demonstrated ability in following step wise experimental protocols. Skill to troubleshoot adaptations of experimental protocols.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as to effectively and accurately document research procedures. Ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials.
Demonstrated ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, theoretical determination and recommendations, and plans of action. Strong process orientation.
Ability to provide quick and flexible leadership around shifts in project needs that occur based on on-the-ground realities.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and work effectively with constituents to facilitate the mission of the laboratory.
Knowledge of established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues. Knowledge of UCSD Environmental Health and Safety requirements preferred.
Knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of Institutional Review Board and other federal research policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, and/or Biochemistry.
Five years lab manager research experience.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $66,441 - $106,839 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $31.82 - $51.17
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
