What You Will Achieve

We are seeking a Data Scientist with strong skills in programming, database architecture and tool development for the analysis of high throughput screening (HTS) data to join our HTS team within the Discovery Biology and Pharmacology (DBP) group in Groton, CT. The HTS team is building internal capabilities to support automated high-throughput screening to identify novel lead matter in support of Pfizers small molecule portfolio. The successful candidate will combine his/her/their expertise in coding and data analysis with strong collaboration and organizational skills to partner with colleagues across functions and to support multiple disease areas of focus.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will help to build Pfizers internal HTS capability in DBP by designing and executing automated data analysis and publishing workflows to enable HTS including primary, confirmation, counter screen, and selectivity assays in 384-well and 1536-well plate formats, all with minimal supervision. This scientist will build and maintain a tracking dashboard that can organize and report the status of HTS campaigns, the output of screening efforts in terms of milestone achievement, and meta data associated with each project.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Ensure start-to-finish data flow encompassing registered compounds in source plates, data output from plate readers, QC analysis, etc. on fully and semi-automated platforms.

  • Independently design and execute protocols to upload, analyze, report and publish both internal and external data into corporate databases,

  • Create workflows that can analyze and report plate level, layer-level, and well level calculations using data analysis software including Genedata screener.

  • Test new versions of software and interact with software developers to ensure proper function in both development and production modes

  • Program automation systems using Cellario, Biomek, Echo, and other software platforms for efficient execution of HTS campaigns

  • Create and maintain a dashboard that captures the timelines of key milestones of HTS campaigns, allows for scheduling of multiple HTS projects on several different automation platforms and illustrates bottlenecks and areas for improvement.

  • Construct a reporting tool that informs senior management of the status and timelines of each HTS campaign.

  • Maintain a database of HTS results and meta data that can be queried to answer a variety of screening questions

  • Actively participate in the scouting, evaluation, creation, and implementation of new data solutions to enhance workflow efficiencies and/or capabilities.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

  • BS or equivalent with 6+ years OR MS with 4+ years of experience relevant industry experience

  • Demonstrated experience writing codes, uploading data, publishing data, and managing databases

  • Knowledge of at least one language (python, Java, Excel VBA, C#, SQL) is required.

  • Familiarity with application programming interfaces (APIs)

  • Excellent customer service, time management, computer, verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

  • BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering or related life-sciences field

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, whether working independently or as part of a team

  • Expertise in SQL and python

  • Knowledge of Genedata screener

  • Previous experience with project management software (Microsoft Project, Jira, Smartsheets or other)

  • Thorough understanding of different API architectures like REST and SOAP

  • Experience with Biomek I7, Echo acoustic liquid handlers, Tempest reagent dispensers, Pherastar plate readers and Envision plate readers

  • Experience with HighRes or other automated systems

  • Previous experience providing laboratory and automation support

  • Familiarity with in vitro assay data (fluorescence, HTRF, TR-FRET, SPA, luminescence) commonly used in pharmacology screening

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $77,100.00 to $128,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizers Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
