We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Test Method Development Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of test methods for assessing peel and shear performance of hook-and-loop fastening systems. The successful candidate will function as a technical thought leader, driving innovation, ensuring consistency across testing methodologies, and working in close alignment with ASTM and other standards organizations to maintain industry best practices. This role also requires strong collaboration with global customers, technical partners, and internal cross-functional teams to provide robust, scalable, and scientifically sound testing solutions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement novel test methodologies for mechanical performance (peel, shear, tensile) of fastening systems.
Translate business needs and technical challenges into validated testing protocols that support new product development and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a methodology subject matter expert, providing guidance on experimental design, statistical analysis, and technical documentation.
Execute cross-site correlation studies with customers and partner labs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility of test methods.
Engage with ASTM and international standards bodies to influence and adapt test method standards applicable to hook-and-loop technologies.
Lead technical project teams focused on method development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
Apply sound engineering judgment and scientific theory to troubleshoot test variability and drive systemic improvements.
Mentor and train technical staff in proper execution of developed test methods and instrumentation use.
Generate technical reports, white papers, and IP documentation, to support business objectives and regulatory compliance.
Stay current with material and testing innovations; incorporate emerging technologies into test strategy roadmaps.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
5 years of experience in test method development, quality engineering, or applied R&D within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Advanced knowledge of test instrumentation, automation, and materials characterization methods (with emphasis on adhesives or fastening systems).
Proven experience in test method design and correlation studies, including interlaboratory studies.
Hands-on experience with statistical tools and methodologies such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Gage R&R, capability analysis, and regression modeling.
Demonstrated capability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers or technicians.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong data analysis capabilities using tools such as Minitab, JMP, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of risk analysis (FMEA), quality systems (ISO 9001/IATF 16949), and product validation.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Background in plastics, nonwovens, or adhesives with knowledge of rheology, creep, or viscoelastic material behavior.
Active participation in technical societies or standards committees (e.g., ASTM D13/D14/D76).
Experience with automation of test processes and digital data capture platforms.
Proven ability to effectively supervisor/manage a diverse team of associates.
