Position Summary...

DNA Solutions is a nationally recognized leader in forensic DNA testing, providing high-quality genetic analysis services to law enforcement agencies across the nation. In addition to our forensic work, we are at the forefront of research, development, and innovation in molecular genetics. The Forensic Lab Manager is responsible for the daily management and operations of the forensic DNA laboratory. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient case workflow, timely and accurate case reporting, and compliance with all applicable quality assurance standards. The Lab Manager will also provide critical support to the Lab Director and Quality Manager.

Work Schedule: Day Shift, Monday through Friday. This is a full-time role

Work Restrictions: Because of vital nature of this work, we do not allow medical marijuana cards and we do random drug testing on all of our employees.

Reports to Laboratory Director

Minimum Qualifications...

  • A Master's degree (at a minimum) in biology, chemistry, forensic science, or a related area.
  • Successful completion of at least 12 credit hours (graduate or undergraduate) covering subject areas including biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, and statistics and/or population genetics.
  • Sufficient experience in Forensic DNA analysis to recognize possible errors in performance or interpretation, including a minimum of three (3) years of DNA analysis experience.

Position Responsibilities...

  • Administrative management of all laboratory and support staff.
  • Managing the daily operations of the laboratory, including ordering of supplies and reagents.
  • Has authority, in conjunction with the Laboratory Director, for overseeing the hiring and firing of all personnel.
  • Oversight of facility maintenance.
  • Insuring that casework is processed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Has the authority to assign laboratory casework and duties.
  • Available to review and approve case reports prior to their release.
  • Available to provide testimony as a court qualified expert.
  • Has the authority to speak directly to clients regarding their case processed at the laboratory.
  • Available to laboratory personnel as a resource for training, problem solving, and questions as needed.
  • Responsible for remaining up-to-date with current methods and procedures in order to advise the laboratory in that regard.

Work Environment...

This role requires occasional handling and processing of forensic casework samples and thereby exposure to biological materials, including blood, saliva, and other body fluids. Lab Manager must always adhere to strict safety and contamination prevention measures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.

Physical Demands...

The position requires the ability to perform standard laboratory procedures, including extended periods of work standing at a lab bench or seated at a computer. The Forensic Lab Manager must be able to lift and carry laboratory supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity and manual dexterity must be adequate for the completion of highly sensitive and precise tests at a very high level of accuracy.
