Postdoctoral Fellow Molecular Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease

The Kalia Labs in Toronto, Canada, are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join our collaborative and multidisciplinary team located in the Krembil Brain Institute at the University Health Network (UHN) .

Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal death in Parkinson's disease (PD) and discovering much-needed disease-modifying therapies . We aim to revolutionize PD treatment by targeting key processes like protein quality control and developing novel therapeutic approaches.

To explore these questions, we develop and apply an integrated set of tools and approaches, including:

• Molecular biology techniques for dissecting disease mechanisms.
• iPSC-derived 2D cultures and 3D organoids for disease modeling and drug screening.
• In vivo vertebrate animal models to study pathology and test therapies.
• Advanced techniques for investigating protein misfolding and clearance pathways.

Qualifications and Areas of Interest

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds and interests. Particularly encouraged are applicants with demonstrated proficiency in or enthusiasm for:

• Molecular neuroscience techniques relevant to neurodegeneration.
• Cell culturing, including iPSCs , and the development of 2D and 3D organoid systems.
• Working with animals , particularly in vivo vertebrate models for disease modeling and therapeutic testing.
• Protein quality control mechanisms and neurodegeneration.
• Drug discovery and therapeutic development.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) by the start date and have a strong record of research productivity. Prior experience in neuroscience or molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration is preferred.
