POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for quality testing of product from tanks, railcars, truck offloading, field samples, process samples and customer samples. Testing will include gas chromatography and physical properties testing/ASTM testing. Technician will be responsible for producing accurate results and creating Certificates of Analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sets up and operates laboratory instruments to perform standardized testing in accordance with industry and internal standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conducts sampling in most weather conditions. Receives samples from outside organizations. Logs samples upon arrival to the lab and conditions them for testing.
  • Conducts required certification analysis for all products per ASTM, EPA, and GPA guidelines. Documents all test results.
  • Prepares and issues certificate of analysis (CoA) in accordance with established standards.
  • Conducts maintenance on laboratory testing and sampling equipment
  • Cleans and sterilizes laboratory testing and sampling equipment.
  • Conducts instrument validation to ensure accuracy, precision, and reliability.
  • Maintains inventory of chromatographic gases, standards, and consumables.
  • Complies with laboratorys safety plan (LSP) and MPLX quality

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must hold a valid Driver License with excellent driving record
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

SKILLS:

  • Calibration: Develops ability to perform calibration on instruments with accuracy and precision in accordance with established procedures. Aware of environmental factors such as temperature, vibration, noise affecting calibration.
  • Chromatography Fundamentals: Develops working knowledge of underlying principles of the chromatographic process, mechanisms that result in chromatographic separation, analytical techniques used to determine composition of natural gas and calculate its energy content.
  • Data Quality: Develops understanding of criticality of data integrity to hydrocarbon measurement. Able to apply validation methods to ensure accuracy and precision of measurement data for operational use such as operations, gas accounting, custody transfer
  • Equipment Maintenance: Develops knowledge of and ability to perform asset-specific preventative and predictive maintenance to assure equipment operation at acceptable performance levels.
  • Laboratory Industry Standards: Develops knowledge of and practical experience with industry standards for hydrocarbon sampling and testing from American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Gas Association (AGA), GPA Midstream Association and related organizations
  • Natural Gas Composition: Develops knowledge of natural gas components, their chemical composition and effects of temperature and pressure.
  • Quality Control Analysis: Develops knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards.
