Job Summary Summary Will support the development of systems and probes being developed for research and clinical applications through all development phases, including design, prototyping, fabrication, validation, utilization, and maintenance. Highly desired qualities are creativity, attention to detail, and experience with biomedical optics. Will participate on multiple projects, and assist in the design and fabrication of , mechanical, and electronic components in new devices, reviewing and documenting the manufacturing process for in-production devices, and troubleshooting the performance of existing systems. No Essential Functions -Design new, mechanical, and electronic components and systems using industry standard design control processes. -Develop complex mechanical systems. -Design, fabricate, and validate mechanical enclosures, mounts, and subassemblies. -Design and implement vibration, thermal, and environmental testing methods. -Produce prototypes of new optical, mechanical, and electronic components and systems. -Document new and existing parts and procedures to facilitate manufacturing. -Validate the conformance of components and systems to specifications. -Troubleshoot and take corrective action for components and systems not meeting specifications. Our research group consists of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, and physicians focused on developing clinically translatable biomedical devices and drug delivery systems. The Research Engineer (analytical scientist) will be a member of the bioanalytics team with the following responsibilities: Operate LCMS, ELISA, PCR, GCMS, and ICP-MS equipment to analyze pre- clinical samples provided by formulation teams. Prepare pre-clinical LCMS and GCMS samples with high precision and quality. Develop bioanalytical methods for the detection of target molecules in complex matrices (plasma, serum, organ tissues, urine, etc). Design automated liquid handling programs for bioanalytical sample preparation, including: protein precipitation, solid phase extraction (SPE), and supported liquid extraction (SLE). Validate bioanalytical methods and evaluate the validation results against internal guidelines. Troubleshoot and repair analytical instrumentation, and/or coordinate onsite repair from OEM service provider. Write and prepare standard operating procedures. Support lead analytical chemists with requests, as needed. Manage sample tracking in LIMS. Document daily tasks and upload files to ELN. Job Requirements: B.S. (M.S. preferred) in a relevant scientific field (i.e. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering); at least two years' specialized experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate) with analytical chemistry; chromatography and mass spectrometry experience; experience working with and maintaining technical instruments/equipment; ability to multitask and organize multiple experiments and work assignments simultaneously and work both independently and as part of a team; strong time management, communication, and problem-solving skills; and awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Candidate must have experience with chromatographic and mass spec instrumentation with prior experience in complex bioanalytical sample preparation. Familiarization with chemstation, OpenLab, Masshunter, and Analyst is a plus, and prior experience operating Agilent instrumentation is preferred. Individual must have basic mechanical capabilities and very strong independent problem solving capabilities.
