Responsibilities:
The Energy Institute of Louisiana (EIL) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Biochemical Engineer to support advanced research in carbon capture and utilization technologies. Reporting to the EIL Executive Director, the individual in this role will contribute to the design, development, and analysis of microalgae-based photobioreactor systems, while supporting broader sustainability research initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge experimental work, data analysis, and process modeling, contributing to impactful environmental and energy solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, construction, and operation of microalgae-based photobioreactors for Co2 capture and utilization
- Collection and analyses of air, biomass, and water samples for monitoring of process operations
- Collection and management of experimental data
- Data interpretation and process modelling
- Presentation of results at conferences and professional meetings
- Assist with research project implementation and management
- Perform a TEA and LCA on the proposed process
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Chemical Engineering
- Extensive experience with culturing and optimization of microalgal systems for Co2 capture and utilization
- Experience in R&D associated with CO2 uptake and algae cultivation in photobioreactors
- Experience with analytical systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least three years of research lab experience in the microalgae area
- Work experience with evaluating system designs
- Work experience with photobioreactor design and operations
- Research presentation experience
- Experience with industrial outreach activities
Skills, Abilities, Etc.:
- Ability to write and publish technical publications
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to lead technical teams
- Alternative green chemical manufacturing system development knowledge
- Excellent technical writing skills
