We're looking for a Chemical Operator to join our team in St. Catharines. In this role, you'll operate various types of process equipment used to manufacture water treatment chemicals for the pulp and paper industry.
This is a full-time, non-unionized position, currently operating on a Monday to Friday schedule with rotating 8-hour shifts (Days: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Afternoons: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM), with occasional overtime.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- A strong safety mindset - for yourself and your coworkers
- Working knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Familiarity with life-critical safety systems such as:
- Lockout/tagout (LOTO)
- Hot work permits
- Confined space entry
- Line breaks and working at heights
- Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment (preferred, not required)
- Basic understanding of chemistry, mechanical, or electrical systems (an asset)
- Process or quality control experience
- Proficiency using computers, including HMI control systems and Microsoft Office
- Forklift driving experience
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically able to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) safely and repeatedly
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Follow all company safety procedures and environmental standards
- Operate chemical batch processes using manual and automated (PLC/HMI) systems
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment or process issues
- Complete quality checks and adjust batches as needed
- Record data and maintain accurate batch records, logs, and inventory sheets
- Operate a forklift for material handling and routine tasks
- Load/unload raw materials and finished products from containers and tank trucks
- Connect hoses and transfer materials safely
- Maintain clean equipment and workspaces (good housekeeping practices)
- Support shipping/receiving, maintenance, and general plant operations as needed
- Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) during assigned terms
- Participate in site safety, environmental, and quality initiatives
As part of your employment, you will be required to:
- Obtain your Class 3 and Class 4 Power Operating Engineer Certifications through our fully funded training program
- Gain hands-on experience by supporting boiler operations while working as a Chemical Operator
- Be responsible for routine boiler operation and water testing as part of your duties
