Here's a Glimpse of the Job

The Research Associate assists the Principal Investigator (PI) with conducting research, including program evaluation and survey research. This role will performs duties specifically related to research activities, including survey development, data collection, focus groups, interviews, literature reviews, database management, data analysis, report creation, publishing support and proposal support.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Assists PI with project activities.

  • Responsible for planning and organizing meeting with stakeholders.

  • Prepares and presents information to stakeholders.

  • Facilitates site visits, focus groups, interviews and other in-person data collection activities.

  • Coordinates activities (e.g. trainings, technical assistance calls) between project teams, outside parties, and stakeholders.

  • Ensures that all work is accurate and in compliance with the departmental and project protocols.

  • Clearly explain, discuss, and communicate research, analysis and program information to audiences through presentations, written or other oral communications.

  • Assists with analytical or data management tasks.

  • Provides database management for various research projects.

  • Assists with data analysis to fulfill routing reporting to sponsor, routing management activities, and special information needs with the scope of contract.

  • Assists with the preparation of reports for submission to project sponsors and stakeholders.

  • Assists with publication and related dissemination tasks.

  • Assists Principal Investigator with research activities such as ASL, attending meetings related to research projects, data collection, project planning, and maintaining project databases.

  • Performs basic intermediate research for projects to include literature reviews, internet research or phone inquiries, preparing presentations or providing analytical support for project activities.

  • Provides proposal development support.

  • Collaborates with research teams to support project needs throughout the department as assigned.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hires education and experience

Special Note: Because all or a portion of your salary may be funded by grants or contracts, your continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or related field.

  • Two years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in statistics.

  • Experience conduction social science research (program evaluation, focus groups, data collection, data management, and public policy).

  • Experience communication and presenting information.

  • Experience writing and/or publishing.

  • Experience with developing grant proposals and coordination with external sponsors.

  • Knowledge of Stata R, and Tableau.

  • Experience working with Texas state agencies and criminal justice data.

  • Experience conducting site visits.

  • Experience creating dashboards.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to travel across the State and overnight stay is required (site visits, focus groups, meetings, and conferences.)

  • Knowledge of work processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
