Job Summary:
Under the leadership of the Research & Development Manager/Director, this role is responsible for designing and creating innovative products that meet the performance and cost requirements of customer project briefs. They will work closely with the commercial team and engage directly with clients, providing technical expertise throughout the product development process, from initial brief to commercialization. Additionally, they will stay updated on industry trends, new regulations, and emerging technologies with a continuous improvement focus.
Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative, safe, and effective personal care and cosmetic formulas in alignment with customer briefs, market trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Modify and optimize existing formulations to meet performance, cost, sustainability, or regulatory targets.
- Conduct reverse engineering and competitive product analysis to support innovation and product development.
- Manage all aspects of lab-scale formula development, including batching, stability testing, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales & Business Development, Regulatory, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure seamless transition from lab to production.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to support customer projects, product briefs, and technical troubleshooting.
- Engage with raw material suppliers to identify and evaluate new ingredients, technologies, and industry innovations.
- Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, and product presentations as needed.
- Maintain accurate and organized formula records, technical data, and compliance documentation.
- Support internal innovation initiatives, trend research, and product concept development.
- Ensure adherence to R&D processes, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Perform testing and evaluation of prototypes, including stability, sensory, and performance assessments.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging ingredient technologies.
- Action-oriented and fosters a collaborative and positive working environment, and has a team player attitude
- Perform other related duties as required to support product development and business objectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies:
- Perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

- Extensive knowledge of raw materials
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.

Industry And Work Experience:
- 5+ years of experiencewithresearchanddevelopment and formulation of personal care and cosmetic products
- OTC/FDAexperience
- Haircare formulation experience preferred.
Academic:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related May be met with 5+ years of experience.
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms
- Constantly use hands to keyboard or type, handle materials, or manipulate objects
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone/email
- Lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and, occasionally, up to 50 pounds
Work Environment:
- Regularly required to work in areas where chemical materials are encountered
- Manufacturing setting with moving machinery
- Regularly required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- May involve exposure to the shop environment, including variable noise levels
- Must customarily have a high consciousness of personnel and equipment safety

This salary range may vary based on relevant factors, including but not limited to experience, education, performance, scope of responsibilities, location, and other considerations permitted by law.
