This is a 100% Limited position for 1 year with the possibility of extension or conversion to career status.

DESCRIPTION

The Taiwan Studies Research Associate will work closely with the Co-Directors of the Center for Taiwan Studies to provide research support on case studies, policy briefs, and other analytical communication products.

This position will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Center including research and data analysis, producing drafts, and providing research presentation. The position will also provide work direction to affiliated graduate students supported by the Center.

The majority of the work will be to support the Center's research, publication, and program activity including:

  • Expanding the Taiwanese-American "Who's Who" entries to be more comprehensive, inclusive and informative.

  • Helping catalog and digitalize magazines and other materials donated by Taiwanese-American organizations since 1961.

  • Building a global Taiwan network by hyperlinking major Taiwan studies institutions worldwide and integrating their research resources.

  • Serving as project manager for a variety of research projects at the Center for Taiwan Studies.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA degree in Global Studies, Chinese Studies, International Studies, or related field. Master's or PhD preferred, or a combination of education and experience in related fields.

  • Technical understanding of Taiwan-China-US relations from a local, regional and trans-regional perspective, to ensure that findings from academic research are translated into general research-driven conclusions in a way that is both simple to follow, but also accurate.

  • Theoretical knowledge (via coursework or professional experience) of Taiwan studies including the history and culture of Taiwan, and evolution of Taiwan-American relations.

  • Excellent, detail oriented communication skills including advanced writing skills. Ability to communicate policy lessons from technical academic research in ways that policymakers and practitioners understand.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.

  • Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills.

  • Must be flexible and self-motivating, with excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Ability to give and receive candid and constructive feedback.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions. Experience in compiling, synthesizing, drafting report and interpreting data and results.

  • Demonstrated experience in research and writing of case studies.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in digital humanities research, theory, and practices.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Applicant must be bilingual (English and Taiwanese/Mandarin) in order to communicate with members of the Taiwanese-American community.

  • Applicant must have access to reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to legally travel to and from the United States and other countries.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,260 - $96,936 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.86 - $46.43

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
