A Chemist is needed for a company that manufactures, sells, and markets non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups in the Atlanta, GA area. This is a laboratory position for a candidate with 1-5 years of experience to evaluate sweet compounds, conduct sensory tests, perform instrumental analysis, and maintain proper documentation and lab practices.

responsibilities:
- Evaluate new or existing sweet compounds and sweetener combinations.
- Prepare samples, including reference and calibration samples, for sensory tests.
- Execute sensory tests and work with a Sensory Lead to summarize and interpret results.
- Maintain proper records and storage of incoming materials and compounds.
- Perform laboratory maintenance, including supply management and cleanup.
- Validate sensory methods to ensure consistency across various departments (QA, R&D, Product Development, Packaging, and Marketing).
- Identify, classify, maintain, and protect files, documentation, and sensitive information.
- Record data from analyses, calibrations, maintenance, cleaning, and experiments in a computer logbook or laboratory notebook.
- Analyze ingredients, syrups, beverages, or other substances using laboratory instruments. This includes preparing analytical standards and standard curves.
- 1-5 years of experience working in a lab setting.
- BS Degree, Associate Degree, or equivalent work experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work for multiple hours continuously with production equipment.
- Ability to occasionally lift and transport up to 30 pounds.
Instrumental Analysis:
- Ability to analyze substances using laboratory instruments.
- Knowledge of basic lab instruments and equipment (e.g., pH meter, Brix meter).
- Skill in preparing analytical standards and standard curves.
- Knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Proficiency in handling chemicals and glassware.
- Skill in preparing standards and reagents.
- Proper measuring and data management techniques.
- Knowledge and application of sensory testing and best practices.
- Ability to understand and apply sensory theory to generate experimental designs.
