Your Opportunity
Stantec's Water/Wastewater practice has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Environmental Scientist. You will serve as the technical environmental expert monitoring all environmental programs affecting the ability of plant management to meet or exceed environmental regulations and objectives and in the development and application of innovative and alternative technologies.
Works independently to develop, implement, and monitor a self-audit program to ensure operating plants comply with all environmental laws; participates in interdisciplinary teams to provide scientific technical support in the development and implementation of programs, projects, and controls dealing with environmental compliance and technologies.
Serves as a site resource responsible for compliance with the requirements of applicable local, state, and federal environmental policies, laws, and regulations.
Provides expertise and oversight in the assessment, sampling, manifestation, profiling and disposal of hazardous waste, solid waste, asbestos, PCB's and used oil. Provides guidance in waste minimization efforts through recycling.
Maintains an advanced knowledge of principles and practices of environmental science needed to independently evaluate problems, discuss alternative solutions, and make mitigative recommendations. Keeps abreast of technical developments, particularly in environmental compliance.
Reviews and is accountable for preparing, reviewing, and submitting environmental reports/permits as required by programmatic responsibilities and local, state, and federal laws.
Is the technical expert for solid/hazardous waste, asbestos, PCB and used oil technologies to advise TVA staff on most effective approaches for achieving environmental compliance or minimizing environmental impact. May serve as rep on EMS team.
Reviews and prepares comments on Integrated Pollution Plans for accuracy & adequacy, investigates all spills, and reviews all permit applications/modifications for accuracy and/or disseminate permit requirements to plant management.
Develops environmental decision records, environmental assessments and environmental impact statements associated with all proposed projects and operations changes to determine risk and impact on current environmental permits.
Develops and facilitates site-specific environmental training. Provides technical assistance to local governments and small businesses regarding waste treatment.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
A B.S. degree in environmental or physical science, a technical area of study such as chemistry, biology, natural science, or physics with environmental emphasis. An advanced degree is desirable.
Certifications in other environmental disciplines preferred.
10 years of professional experience in the environmental area.
Experience in surveying, BMPs.
When applicable must:
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications
Must be able and willing to assume "on-call" rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 days-a-week availability
Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by the organization's procedures during peak periods
Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performed assigned tasks and, as necessary, and temporarily assigned to a field location.
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
