The Lamba Lab in the Department of Ophthalmology and Immunology (OPTI) at Genentech is seeking a self-motivated and curious Postdoctoral Fellow to develop and drive projects on retinal disease modeling and repair. OPTI is a part of Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED): scientists in gRED are at the interface between academic and industry research and are expected to present their research in publications as well as international conferences in addition to intra- and inter-departmental meetings. The Lamba lab is interested in understanding retinal disease pathogenesis using human stem cell and animal based models. (Kandoi et al. Elife 2024, Chirco et al Stem Cell Reports 2021, Neves et al. Science 2016)

The Opportunity:

  • Focused on developing novel in vitro disease models for understanding disease pathogenesis and/or test novel therapeutic hypotheses for in vitro and in vivo.

  • This role will require the ability to conceive, plan, and conduct independent research.

  • You will have a positive, resilient, and collaborative attitude with the ability to develop novel hypotheses and drive projects.

Who You Are:

  • Ph.D. with a proven track record of excellence in either Ophthalmology, Stem Cell Biology, Immunology or Neuroscience

  • Must have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a top-tier peer-reviewed journal.

  • Strong background in culturing and manipulating organoid models, CRISPR screens or stem cell biology as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Computational skills, retinal in vivo experience, or omics experience would be advantageous.

  • Expertise in retinal disease modeling especially using pluripotent cells is highly desired.

  • Team player with a proactive attitude to tackle long standing, difficult problems in retinal biology.

  • Highly motivated and capable of independent work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco California is $98,000 and $104,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
