JOB PURPOSE:
The job is a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Biology Education Research with a focus on strategies to increase biology education for members of historically underserved populations (especially Black students and/or LGBTQ+ students). The position requires assistance with managing research activities of projects (e.g., research design, IRB approval, data collection, data analysis) and research products (e.g., writing, and presentations), supervising students, and developing new research directions and proposals within the scope of groups research thrusts. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct both survey-based and interview-based research and be able to lead a project from inception to publication.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
The position holds no formal supervisory authority, but the candidate will be expected to provide mentorship any existing or future graduate or undergraduate members of the lab.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts are with faculty, staff, and students. External contacts may include research collaborators and faculty, staff, or students of other institutions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Conduct both quantitative and qualitative research on biology education
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in lab as they are conducting research
Request and receive IRB approval for all project work
Write and publish results from research projects
Attend meetings and professional conferences to present research results
CORE COMPETENCIES :
Proficient use of R, Excel, Word
Familiarity with Qualtrics and Nvivo, or similar software
Excellent interview skills
Ability to write and edit survey questions
Ability to take a manuscript through all stages of publication
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
PhD in Biology or related field, or ABD with expectation of PhD awarded before start date.
Demonstration of organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in teams is essential
Additionally, working independently to produce reports and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals is required.
Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
Expected Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
