The Western Services Laser Division (WSLD), part of the Engineering, Science, and Analysis (ESA) strategic capabilities unit, ensures that capabilities of our scientific, engineering, and technical teams are properly aligned to execute current and future efforts through strategic deployment of key talent and the continual development of capabilities to support current and future efforts associated with directed energy (DE) programs.

We are currently seeking to hire a leader for our complex system modeling and assessments team. The nominal candidate for this position will have relevant experience in this program focus area, and a proven record of successful leadership, collaboration, and problem solving.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers missions. What Youll Do:
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the execution of projects supporting program/contract objectives e.g., develop mathematical and statistical models to represent the operations of aerospace systems under predetermined, scenario specific conditions; develop and operate modeling & simulation tools to provide system level assessments and analyses of aerospace systems of interest.
  • Conduct all-source research and analysis in support of assessment of aerospace systems of interest.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in related functional technical areas to support aerospace systems assessments, design relevant experiments, and perform data analysis and synthesis.
  • Compile and prepare documentation (e.g., briefings and reports) to support technical meetings and contract deliverables and effectively communicate understanding of both the technical and programmatic aspects of a project to the project team as well as the customers.
  • Promote development of a strong team by participation in key aspects of the project and mentoring more junior team members. When delegating, establish clear expectations by providing well-defined tasks with clear entrance/exit criteria, due dates, and associated budgets (as required).
  • Support time-phase/staffing estimates for assigned program focus areas utilizing existing standardized tools.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, solid communication and presentations skills, and ability to lead group discussions.
  • May work with classified documents which requires thorough knowledge of DoD procedures for the proper usage and safeguarding of classified information.
  • Provide timely feedback to team members about his/her performance. Seek opportunities to recognize outstanding performance via the Employee Recognition Process. Address poor performance appropriately.
  • Support identification and pursuit of business opportunities through direct involvement in pre-proposal and proposal activities.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e. Masters Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active DoD Top Secret security clearance is required for this position with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI.
  • Familiarity with optics, lasers, physics-based modeling and simulation is required for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, C++, Python), analysis software tools, and Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Solid organizational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $105254 - $178931

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
