Qualitech is looking for an Associate R&D Scientist for their food solutions division. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate or early-career food scientist who is passionate about product development and eager to build a strong foundation in a dynamic and collaborative R&D environment. As an R&D Associate Scientist, you will be at the heart of our innovation process, turning creative ideas into tangible food ingredients. This role is a perfect blend of hands-on lab and pilot plant work combined with scientific experimentation and analysis.
The Associate R&D Scientist has two primary responsibilities -
1.) Lab sample production of existing and new formulations
2.) Development, execution, and analysis of formulations and technical experimentation under the direction of senior technical R&D developers.
What You'll Do (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):
Product Development & Experimentation (Approx. 50%)
- Execute technical experiments and formulate new products under the guidance of senior R&D developers.
- Perform laboratory activities and analysis to support the development and improvement of products and processes.
- Assist with plant trials and commercialization support, occasionally requiring off-shift work or travel.
- Conduct electronic documentation, data entry, and analysis, leveraging your understanding of formulations to provide valuable feedback.
Core R&D Support (Approx. 50%)
- Create, package, and label R&D samples of new and existing formulations in the lab and pilot plant.
- Prepare all necessary shipping documents (UPS, FedEx, commercial invoices, etc.) to ensure samples reach our customers.
- Maintain the inventory of R&D samples and lab supplies, ensuring our team has what they need to innovate.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Previous experience in a research lab, plant, or corporate R&D environment
Knowledge and Skills
- A solid working knowledge of basic food chemistry, food ingredient functionality and product testing, Good Manufacturing Practices, and production concepts.
- Strong analytical skills and a foundational understanding of experimental design.
- Comfortable and hands-on with benchtop and pilot-scale food production equipment.
