The environmental scientist performs work as a member of a collaborative team as the staff lead on addressing a backlog of aquaculture lease amendments and new state water bottom leases; taking the lead role in advising and assisting in preparing and reviewing environmental documents created pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act and under the Commissions Certified Regulatory Program; manages Commission tasks associated with Californias Experimental Fishing Permit Program; works with other Commission staff to develop and organize materials related to marine resource and marine policy issues for the Commission and the Marine Resources Committee; and represents the Commission in discussions with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department) and other natural resource management agencies.
The Commission is a State entity established within the California State Constitution. The successful incumbent will be an employee of the Commission, reporting to the executive director and working daily with the Commission's marine advisor.
Interviews are expected to be held September 3-5, 2025.
This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Working Conditions- Hybrid work schedule, split between working in the new LEED-certified Natural Resources Building and an approved remote location (such as a home office), with exact schedule to be determined in coordination with incumbent and in accordance with the Commission's telework policy
- Open-spaced office cubicle in a smoke-free environment, equipped with two monitors, a sit-stand desk and laptop computer, as well as nearby copier/scanner
- Professional office environment
- Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., as well as occasional evenings and weekends, with some flexibility negotiable
- Frequent use of a computer, related software applications, and the Internet at an indoor workstation
- Sitting or standing at a workstation or in a meeting room for extended periods of time
