Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated R&D Senior Scientist to join our Analytical Services & Development team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemistry, with expertise in developing and performing analytical analyses to support Product Development, Manufacturing and cross-site functional projects.

What You'll do as a Senior Scientist
  • Demonstrates excellent understanding of STERIS scientific technologies and related sciences.
  • Designs, develops, and carries out test plans for assigned projects with minimal management input. Independently perform standard analyses on samples. Presents results to management.
  • Performs analyses and resolves issues using critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques.
  • Participates in refining current techniques, troubleshooting problems and documenting processes, procedures and results.
  • Manages projects or sections of projects and may provide direction to assigned staff and/or the project.
  • Displays excellent laboratory skills and an advanced understanding of relevant scientific principles theories.
  • Works with little to no supervision/self-motivated.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required. Master's or Ph.D degree in Chemistry is preferred.
  • Requires 8+ years of related laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.
  • Develops and validates methods for laboratory instruments.
  • May serve as technical expert in support of plant operations.
  • Perform mathematical analysis and interpretation of data. Formulates hypothesis and designs experiments to test hypothesis.
  • Demonstrates good oral communication skills: Gives presentations within and outside R&D.
  • Performs troubleshooting, advanced maintenance and calibration on analytical instrumentation.
  • Maintains the Research Notebook recording detailed information on activities undertaken, existing conditions and observed results.
  • Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.
Additional Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
  • Practical knowledge/experience working in a regulated industry is desired.
  • Experience performing independent research.
  • Demonstrates ability to solve complex technical problems through accurate interpretation of requirements and understanding interactions between experimental variables.
  • Strong observation, communication (technical written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
  • Possesses a high degree of technical experience in analytical chemistry.
  • Independently operate various standard analytical instruments and perform basic maintenance according to established methods.
  • Maintains a level of technical knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry that is consistent with the current scientific literature.
  • Demonstrated proficient writing skills for the following:
    • SOPs/WIs and their revisions
    • Test plans/protocols and recognizing when modifications are needed
    • Laboratory reports

Pay range for this opportunity is $80,000.00 - $106,750.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
