Glimpse of the Job
The Assistant Research Scientist is responsible for conducting routine research using standard techniques, analyzing data, and documenting findings. The assistant will collaborate with other research teams, contribute to scientific publications and presentations, and stay current through literature and seminars. Additionally, they will mentor students, maintain lab equipment, and ensure a safe working environment.
Opportunities to Contribute:
Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research, detailing analysis and recording of observations and measurements.
Collaborate with other research groups and attend meetings to discuss ongoing projects or to analyze data.
Assist in the preparation of conference presentations and scientific publications that disseminate research results.
Attend scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
Keep up to date on scientific research via reading literature, etc.
Provides advice and assistance to other laboratory team members and acts as a mentor to students.
Maintain the facility equipment and support a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
PhD in Chemistry
Relevant Professional experience with Polymer Chemistry
A well-qualified candidate may also possess:
General and work-area safety training.
NIH Guidelines, Biosafety Level 2 training, Biological Safety Cabinets, Bloodborne Pathogen, Occupational Health.
Experimental technical skills and experience with synthetic organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and nanostructured polymer materials, including the preparation, processing and rigorous characterization of novel compounds.
Knowledge of relevant laboratory equipment, computers, and phone
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds of equipment as needed
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note: Due to this positions salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
