The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is seeking a seasoned Environmental Scientist Senior to guide the state's solid and hazardous waste permitting programs. A bachelor's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus four years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), OR laboratory auditing; OR
A master's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR
A doctorate in any of the qualifying educational fields plus two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.
Supplemental Qualifications: Two years of scientific/technical experience at or above the Environmental Scientist 3 level directly related to the permitting or regulation of solid waste and/or hazardous waste facilities.

Job Duties:
The Waste Permits Division (WPD) is responsible for a number of activities involving solid and hazardous waste permitting and waste tires. The Environmental Scientist Senior DCL-B for this position plays an integral role with the Division accomplishing its goals and objectives as it relates to waste permitting. Some duties include:
- providing technical expertise to WPD team members in the processing of solid and hazardous waste permits and communicating with the regulated community, general public and other state and federal agencies as well as working with upper management.
- taking the lead with complex / controversial applications, regulation development and recycling efforts among other duties.

Appointment Type: This position promotional and open to permanent DEQ employees only.
Domicile: East Baton Rouge
Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Environmental Scientist Senior DCL-B: $38.45 per hour or $3,075.60 biweekly
