This position is part of the Platform Development Organization located in Redwood City, CA and will be on-site. At IDT, we are one global team. We celebrate our differences, engage in healthy debates, and are inclusive. Together, we accomplish great things.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to deliver transformative capabilities for IDTs oligo synthesis platforms, from initial ideation to implementation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Use creative problem-solving skills to combine established methods with inventions to develop novel, surface-modified solid-phase substrates.
  • Develop a rigorous program for characterization of novel surfaces and surface modifications utilizing a combination of techniques such as XPS, TOF-SIMS, AFM, SEM, contact angle measurements and ellipsometry.
  • Act as a resource for junior scientists on matters of surface science and workstream deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelors degree in materials science, physics, chemistry or related field required
  • Experience using CVD (chemical vapor deposition) to functionalize or passivate silica or silicon oxide surfaces with organosilanes.
  • Intermediate to advanced relevant lab experience in academic setting or industry setting required
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of surface chemistry, adhesion, and interface phenomena in biological environments with proficiency in data analysis and scientific software (e.g., Origin, MATLAB, Python).

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 10% time, domestically and internationally
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently work in a laboratory environment for extended periods

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Advanced degree in scientific field preferred
  • Familiarity with surface modification techniques such as plasma treatment, silanization, or polymer grafting.
  • Oligo synthesis process or related research experience, especially in emerging technologies (e.g. novel chemical, enzymatic, array or microfluidics)

The annual salary range for this role is $130K-$150K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
