Job Description:
Designs and initiates processes for the manufacturing of chemicals and related products such as cement, detergents, gasoline, plastics, and synthetics. Runs experiments and tests to aid in the development of improved manufacturing procedures and processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
Job Responsibilities:
Design tooling and change parts for the manufacturing of current and future product
Focus efforts on essential oil blending processes and also processes for oil refinement
Identify and reduce risk in current and future processes
Gather analytical data from various sources in order to build and develop databases and other means of information dissemination
Work closely with Sourcing, R&D, QC, QA, and other departments or external entities as needed to carry out investigations into existing products and potential new products
Collaborate with distillation partners around the world, with potential for identifying various means of increasing efficiency and yield
Regularly assess doTERRAs distillation needs and work with various teams to expand distillation capabilities (new equipment, personnel, space, etc.)Develop and maintain network relationships with external experts and organizations in the area of essential oil products chemistry, analysis and research
In collaboration with the Sourcing and R&D departments, solicit and evaluate new essential oils, product ideas and new technologies
Drive continuous improvement efforts using lean, six sigma, and other tools
Recommend process changes based on detailed quality analysis and studies
Evaluate current manufacturing to seek improvements (i.e. time studies, kaizens, 5S, etc.)
Drive an increase in manufacturing efficiency through analysis of workflow, processes, tooling and equipment
Job Qualifications:
2+ years industry experience with essential oils or related natural products required
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or related degree
Distillation experience strongly preferred
Awareness of quality assurance and quality control industry practices as well as practical knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and other relevant industry regulations
Familiarity and/or experience with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry or other separation chemistry methods
Awareness of manufacturing and packaging processes for various dosage forms of essential oil or related products
Programming experience in MatLab and/or MathCad preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Team player and able to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize ongoing projects
