Job Summary

Nammo Perry, Inc. is a U.S. defense contractor and a member of the Nammo Group (Nammo AS). Nammo Perry develops, manufactures and specializes in propulsion and energetic material products for tactical missiles, rocket motors, and warheads. Nammo Perry is presently expanding operations and is looking for dedicated team members to assist with new start-up operations and program execution. The Propellant Chemist will design, develop, and optimize solid propellant and adhesive bondliner formulations for rocket motors, ensuring high performance, safety, and reliability for aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation Development: Design and develop solid propellant formulations, including oxidizers, binders, fuels, and additives, to meet performance, stability, and safety requirements
  • Testing and Analysis: Conduct laboratory-scale mixing, casting, and curing of propellant formulations, followed by performance testing (e.g., burn rate, specific impulse, mechanical properties).
  • Process Optimization: Optimize propellant manufacturing processes to ensure scalability, repeatability, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality standards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure formulations comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Conduct hazard assessments and implement safe handling procedures.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze test data to evaluate propellant performance, stability, and aging characteristics. Provide recommendations for formulation improvements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with propulsion engineers and manufacturing teams to integrate propellant designs into rocket motor systems.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and standard operating procedures for propellant formulations and processes.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay current with advancements in propellant chemistry and materials science. Propose innovative solutions to enhance performance and reduce costs.

Requirements, Education, and Skills

  • MS or PhD strongly preferred in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field with approximately five (5) years related work experience in energetics, adhesives or other chemistry field highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio, and web-based organizational filing systems.
  • Ability to utilize internal thermochemical analytical codes.
  • Ability to understand relevant chemistries including elements of polymer, organic, physical and inorganic.
  • Ability to understand and interpret physical and chemical properties data.
  • Understanding of statistics related to Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Strong presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills. Clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Have demonstrated capability for independent work and creativity
  • Ability to work within a cross functional team and a dynamic environment.
  • High ethical standards of work and personal conduct.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard work hours when needed to resolve issues.
  • Ability to obtain BATF approval to work with our products.
  • Ability to qualify for and, if necessary, obtain DoD security clearance.
  • Work Location: Tallahassee, Florida with Travel to Perry, Florida as required
