Job Description The Medical Lab Scientist II will play a critical role in the Automated Chemistry Department, responsible for testing assigned specimens, troubleshooting instruments and procedures, and ensuring high-quality results. This position supports the department through quality control, customer support, and staff training, contributing to process improvement and special projects. Responsibilities
- Perform and report on assigned analytical tests according to Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain turnaround time of results, including STATS or critical results.
- Ensure reagents/test kits have appropriate dates recorded.
- Conduct and document quality control analysis to ensure data accuracy and instrument functionality.
- Make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
- Escalate problems related to test procedures.
- Report deviations from standard testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Utilize personal protective equipment and adhere to safety controls.
- Answer client or lab personnel inquiries.
- Participate in inspections by government or regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency in Chemistry and Clinical Laboratory processes.
- Familiarity with CLIA standards.
- ASCP or C (ASCP) certification required.
- Bachelor's degree in a Science-related field, preferably Chemistry or Medical Lab Science.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical lab experience, preferably in Chemistry.
- Experience as a generalist in clinical laboratory settings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and customer support abilities.
