Research Staff Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow Kharel lab - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Job Family Group: Professional Staff Job Description Summary: A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of RNA Biology and Therapeutics ( in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB), University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). The Kharel Lab is looking for the applicants with interests in studying RNA biology in human neurological disorders. Particularly, an interest in studying G-quadruplex biology from both biological and therapeutic aspects is desired. Applied methods range from the use of biochemical, biophysical, molecular, cellular, and bioinformatics approaches. Collaboration with structural biologists is possible. Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the Universitys Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students. Conduct research, record data, analyze data, and interpret experimental results.
Read literature articles, develop new ideas, and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.
Prepare manuscripts for publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Present research findings at conferences and scientific meetings.
Collaborate with fellow lab members, including graduate students and technicians, to achieve research objectives. Share expertise and contribute to a collaborative and dynamic research environment.
Submit fellowship applications, as eligible, to bolster research funding and CV building for projects.

Required Qualifications
Education: PhD : or equivalent terminal degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in using biophysical tools, such as circular dichroism, microscale thermophoresis, etc.
Practical experience in RNA and/or protein biochemistry, including the expression and purification of recombinant proteins and the functional analysis of proteins and RNA-protein complexes is desired.
Experience in investigating aspects of eukaryotic translation and associated quality control processes will be highly appreciated.
High-throughput data analysis (RNA-seq/ Proteome).
Experience in cutting edge techniques in RNA Biology, protein biochemistry, neuromuscular biology, and cell biology.
Experience working with mouse model of neuro/muscular disorders.
Skills

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
