Position Summary
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, under the direction of Dr. Kai Wang. Two years of funding are available, and the position is potentially renewable depending on performance and funding availability. The position includes benefits (e.g., retirement contribution and health insurance), and the salary will be set according to NIH postdoctoral fellowship guidelines. Dr. Kai Wang is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Indiana University Bloomington. He earned his BS from Nanjing Agricultural University and his PhD from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Since 2020, he has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan Medical School, concentrating on environmental epigenetics, computational toxicology, and small RNA regulatory mechanisms. He was awarded an NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award during his postdoctoral training. His research focuses on developing algorithms to predict gene targets and target tissues affected by chemical exposures, as well as investigating how environmental exposures influence human health through epigenetic regulation and small RNA mechanisms.

Qualifications
The postdoctoral fellow position requires a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. We are looking for candidates with:
Strong programming skills (e.g., R, Python, or C++) and experience with Linux systems
Expertise in Omics data analysis, algorithm development, and computational methods
Experience ing bioinformatics or computational approaches to interdisciplinary research problems
Strong written and oral communication skills
An interest in mentoring undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. students and collaborating in a team-based research environment

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to lead computational studies and generate new knowledge aligned with the overall goals of the laboratory. This includes Sequencing data analyses, developing algorithms and methods for predicting exposome targets, interpreting biological data related to chemicals exposure study, and producing peer-reviewed publications. Resources are available for travel to scientific meetings, and formal training is provided in grant writing, research ethics, rigor and reproducibility, and research management. There will also be opportunities to develop independent research projects, write independent proposals, and gain expertise in bioinformatics, data analysis, computational modeling, project management, and scientific writing.
