Job Title: Lab Technician

Job Description

The Lab Technician will perform sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products to ensure they meet established specifications. The role involves evaluating Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness, recording test data, and maintaining laboratory worklists in the LIMS system to ensure timely release of finished products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products.
  • Evaluate Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness and proper documentation.
  • Record test data and maintain laboratory worklists in the LIMS system.
  • Report nonconformance with immediate corrective actions in the LIMS system.
  • Conduct required inspections for manufacturing equipment, storage equipment, and sanitation cleaning.
  • Participate in check sample programs with outside institutions and internal proficiency programs.
  • Follow proper GMPs and GLPs, using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with raw material testing, COA review, and COA filing.
  • Inspect finished product packaging for correct labels and configurations.
  • Approve and apply final wrap using automated equipment.
  • Perform wet chemistry product testing, equipment inspections, and audits.
  • Spend 70% of the day performing laboratory testing and 30% on the floor conducting inspections and audits.
  • Rotate stations weekly, spending two weeks in the lab and one week on the floor.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 6-12 months of experience in quality assurance/control/testing, preferably in a lab environment.
  • Experience with wet chemistry, viscosity, pH, sample testing, and related procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, write simple correspondence, and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in English language skills, both verbal and written.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • No food allergies, as tasting various food allergens and animal-based products is required.
  • Experience in a lab setting, which could be from academic training.

Work Environment

There will be a pay raise when converted permanent. Occasionally, lifting or handling materials up to 50 lbs is required. The role involves frequent talking, hearing, and tasting or smelling. The employee will occasionally walk, use hands for tasks, and may need to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities such as close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment are necessary. The noise level is typically moderate.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
