Research Scientist

  • Pennsylvania
  • Full Time
We are seeking a motivated and scientifically curious Biochemist/Enzymologist to join our Biochemistry team and contribute to our small molecule drug discovery efforts. The ideal candidate for this position should have strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory research experience in one or more of the following areas: biochemistry, biophysics, enzymology, or chemical biology. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply both theoretical and hands-on skills to assay development, hit identification, hit validation, and lead optimization. The successful candidate will play an integral role in designing and executing in-vitro assays, analyzing experimental data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance small molecule discovery programs.

Summary of the Essential Functions of the Job
  • Design, develop, and execute a variety of biochemical (FI, HTRF, FP etc.) and biophysical assays (SPR, BLI, ITC, DSF etc.) to support hit identification, validation, and mechanistic studies of various modalities, including inhibitors, activators and degraders.
  • Troubleshoot assay performance issues by analyzing assay variability, signal-to-noise ratios, reagent stability, and optimize protocols for robustness, scalability, and reproducibility.
  • Perform high-throughput screening (HTS) and related assays to evaluate compound libraries, assessing affinity, specificity, and binding kinetics (e.G., IC50, K d, k on, k off ).
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data using tools such as GraphPad Prism, Genedata Screener, and other curve-fitting or statistical software, present findings in clear and concise reports, slide decks, and collaborative discussions.
  • Support protein expression and purification workflows using techniques such as affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, and size-exclusion chromatography to generate high-quality proteins for downstream biochemical and biophysical assays.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of lab instrumentation including multimode plate readers, automated liquid handlers etc.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic lab notebooks (ELN), contribute to technical documentation as needed.
  • Master s or Ph.D. In Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Biology, or a related field, with extensive lab experience in biochemistry or enzymology setting (0-5 years of experience)
  • Fundamental understanding of enzymology, biochemical assays and biophysics (e.G., enzyme catalysis and small molecule modes of action, k cat, K m, IC 50, K d, k on, k off ).
  • Experience in basic biochemistry lab work, such as preparing buffers, reagents generations, assay development and performance, operating liquid handling platforms, plate readers etc.
  • Hands-on experience with protein purification and characterization, demonstrating familiarity with theoretical aspects of relevant methods.
Minimum Requirements

Additional Preferences
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across various disciplines to meet project goals and timeline.
  • Flexibility to adjust priorities as needed to meet project goals.
  • Ability to work independently or as an integral part of a larger collaborative team.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical, documentation, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Views personal success as a function of the team s success.
  • Proactive, hardworking, data driven decision maker.
