Duties and Responsibilities: Produce, rescue and propagate recombinant viruses using cell lines. Perform neutralization assays and hemagglutinin inhibition assays with viruses. Culture and maintain cell lines. Organize and maintain sample inventories. Conduct research including planning and conducting experiments and data analysis. Assist in training other contracted staff and students as directed by the federal task lead on the methods and procedures used in the laboratory. Locate and review literature pertinent to projects and to identify/modify the most applicable protocols and methods for experiments. Develop methods for and collect, organize and record experimental data suitable for publication. Trouble shoot assays and adjust scientific methodology to correct problems or deficiencies in a research project, experiment, or trial. Maintain accurate laboratory records to ensure proper retention of scientific data. Collaborate with automation experts to streamline high throughput influenza analyses. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: PhD degree or Master's degree in Virology, Immunology, or a related field. Minimum of two years experience in Virology or a related field. Experience in virus production and rescue. Experience performing neutralization assays. Serve as subject matter expert and provides technical assistance to other NIH departments for influenza vaccine design and development. Demonstrates experience working in a laboratory environment. Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records. Demonstrates knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures. Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in a BSL-2 laboratory. Minimum Qualifications: Experience working with influenza viruses strongly preferred. Ability to work independently, multitask, and pay close attention to detail. Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills.
