Job Summary The Visiting Research Scientist will work on an interdisciplinary team working towards improving plants to have increased photosynthetic efficiency, biomass, and cell wall components. This position will include organizing greenhouse and field experiments of plants, measuring and analyzing traits including, but not limited to, photosynthetic traits and biomass degradation rates. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute greenhouse and field experiments.
  • Collect and analyze data related to molecular characterization, physiology, agronomy, and biomass degradation rates.
  • Write and contribute to manuscript(s) describing results from experiments.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings and supervise student workers.

Additional Physical Demands Essential functions include working outdoors in summer temperatures and completing tasks such as harvesting, digging up roots, and transporting plant tissue and equipment. Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in crop sciences, plant biology, or related life sciences field. Must have previous experience organizing greenhouse and field experiments with plants, assessing plant physiology and agronomy, and have published results in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications

Managed multi-location crop trials, mentored technical staff, studied cell wall composition.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in classical and molecular crop improvement techniques.
  • Experience with training and supervising undergraduate students
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The position may be reappointed annually with continued funding and research progress. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/16/2025. The budgeted salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
