Senior Manufacturing Controls Development Engineer (Multiple Positions), Tesla, Inc., Austin, TX:
Contribute to the design and development of new automation for manufacturing equipment and assembly lines. Develop machine control and machine process concepts in team environment. Create a robust control system architecture to support the manufacturing equipment concept, and then layout electrical, fluid power and control system safety schematics. Program all controls components (such as PLC, safety devices, HMI, servo drives, process hardware and robots) from equipment commissioning to the start of production. Support manufacturing equipment process improvements and validation of those improvements. Work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. Work closely with Product Design Engineering, Quality, Production and Maintenance to bring components from initial design, through prototype development, and finally into full production. Contribute to in-house equipment development, outsourced automation equipment development, existing automation refinement, and assembly line development and implementation.
Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience. Alternatively, will accept a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years of work experience.
Must have 3 years of experience with Ladder Logic PLCs, including Siemens or Allen Bradley.
Must have 3 years of experience with Safety PLCs, including Siemens or Allen Bradley.
Must have 2 years of experience with Human Machine Interface, including one or a combination of HMI / GUI - Siemens WinCC, AB Panelview, FactoryTalk, and/or Ignition.
Must have 3 years of experience with Field bus Networks, including one or a combination of ProfiSafe, AB DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, and/or safety rated field bus networks.
Must have 3 years of experience creating detailed electrical and fluid power schematics in CAD.
Must have 3 years of experience with serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments.
Must have 3 years of experience with ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
Requires domestic travel up to 30% and international travel up to 10%, in order to perform Factory acceptance Test and Commissioning onsite at other Tesla sites.
